Wuxly was founded in the spirit of making a true Canadian parka for Canadian winters to support local craftsmanship within Canada.

Wuxly was founded in 2012 by pro Canadian football player James Yurichuk. Wuxly makes outerwear that was founded on three values; being Made in Canada, sustainable focused and animal-free. Together with their community they are on a mission to #LiveWarm through every action and interaction.

During COVID-19 Wuxly pivoted to make PPE medical gowns to support our Canadian front line workers. Being in the Canadian manufacturing industry, Wuxly was able to aid in the support of these essential workers by making PPE medical gowns and supporting those Canadians on the front lines when we needed help most.

The use of highly innovative materials that are recycled and animal-free is something more companies are gaining interest in. The technology behind the Wuxly jackets is just that.  Innovative in being able to keep people warm in -30 degrees Celsius while doing good for the planet and animals too. From the materials sourced, to where their products are made, Wuxly strives to reduce its carbon footprint by always thinking how their products can be more sustainable.

We had a chance to get to know the Wuxly team -- you should too:

1.     What do the terms “environmental consciousness and sustainable consumption” mean to Wuxly? How does Wuxly encompass this into their movement?

At Wuxly our brand mantra is ‘Live Warm’. We live warm by spreading kindness and respecting all people, our planet and all living beings.

In the midst of today’s environmental awakening, at Wuxly we take our environment very seriously because it’s everyone’s home. We are constantly evolving our products to be more green, whether that’s having Blue-sign approved fabrics, working on getting our brand it’s B-corp certification, using recycled materials, being animal-free and practicing sustainability in our business and workplace.

Sustainable consumption is so important to ensuring we are not buying more than what we need and also buying high quality items that will last a long time rather than constantly replacing and consuming more. At Wuxly we produce high-quality outerwear, made with Canadian craftsmanship. We stand by our products and want them to last for years. It is our wish that our clients wear their Wuxly items proudly and once they are done with them they can either trade them back into us so we can repair it or we can donate them to an organization for people in need of warm items.

Being a sustainable brand means we have to think about every facet of our business and work progressively to challenge ourselves to improve, not settle and always think how can we be more sustainable for our planet.

2.     Can you explain more about your Trade Up Program? How did it start, and how can we contribute?

The Live-Warm Trade Up Program is a community building initiative for us to give back to a community in need of warmth and also subverting fashion items from landfills. When a Wuxly client decides to trade in their previously loved goose-down or fur-trimmed items, we evaluate the item for wear and tear, quality, brand and offer a credit of $100 to go towards a Wuxly Parka. We take their coat and give them to organizations that will distribute the coats to people in need throughout Canada. The fur trims are also donated to an animal rehabilitation centre in order to comfort orphaned animals. Through the trade up program we help those in need as well as diverting waste, creating a circular cycle of use.

Do you have a goose-down or fur-trimmed jacket that you are ready to part ways with and help those I need? Check out https://wuxly.com/pages/live-warm-trade-up-program and we can help you out!

3.     How important is it to create animal-free products for the people?

From the inception of Wuxly Movement we have been dedicated to being animal-free because we simply believe there are more innovative ways to keep warm with technological advancements in the textile industry. Over the years we have used Primaloft Gold Insulation which is superior to goose-down in the fact that it keeps 98% heat retention when wet and is made from 55% recycled plastic. We are constantly evolving our products to be the most sustainable and ethical on the planet.

4.     What’s next for Wuxly and what can we look forward to?

We are super excited for this coming fall/winter season as we are introducing biodegradable components into our new collection of parkas and jackets. Throughout our new collection our outerwear will have a combination of insulation, outer-shell fabrics and inner lining that are biodegradable. Through this we are able to be both animal-friendly while also being as planet-friendly as we can be. New products that are stylish in design, sustainable and all made in Canada is the big focus for Wuxly! Our first ever spring collection will be coming out in 2021.
